New Music of the Day/Week
I'll always be indebted to Patrick for turning me onto Wilco, I hadn't heard of them before Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. Being a good Chicagoan, Patrick filled me in on their story and told me to listen to California Stars and I've been a fan ever since.
I can't remember when I first stumbled upon Jesus, Etc. but that song really hit me. The style and sound of that song epitomizes Wilco for me. I could and have listened to that song on repeat for endless hours. It seeps into your head and stays there because of Tweedy's mellow, soothing voice but still has enough pace to keep you engaged. It's almost one of those lazy Sunday type of songs but it's too special for that.
If I was still living in Colorado, it'd be a perfect song for driving over Wilkerson Pass at 7:30am on the way to Breckenridge, with the sun just cresting over the pass and lighting the wide, unfolding valley below with the Sangre de Cristos in the distance.
Here's my song of the week from Wilco's forthcoming new album, Sky Blue Sky, called Impossibly Germany. It sounds similar to Jesus, Etc. and stirs the same great feelings and memories that I associate with that song.
