New Music of the Day/Week

Thanks to KCRW for this turning me on to a British group called Hot Chip. Reminding me a little of the Postal Service but perhaps a bit mellower and slower  paced, they’re an electronic band that  released their second full album “The Warning.”

I’m embarrassed for not having heard of these guyssooner because they seem to be all over the music blogosphere. Just another reason to listen to KCRW more diligently.

Pitchfork reviews the album and says that one more album to refine their sound will elevate this band to annals of electronic fame (Moby, Fatboy Slim, Postal Service, etc.). We’ll have to see if that happens but for right now, here are my two favorites, Colours and their remake of Sexual healing (and yes I realize that it’s almost sacrilegious to mess with Marvin Gaye’s music but give it a chance):

Late New Year's Resolutions

Where to begin...It’s been a few weeks (since 12/17/06 to be exact) since I last posted and part of my new year’s resolutions was to post everyday. So with the start of a new year and having been in D.C. for an entire year now, it’s time to publicly declare my new year’s resolutions for the year ahead:

1. One post every day (no exceptions)
2. Getting back to the gym (cliché I know but I will actually do this)
3. Stop watching television (I was TV free for the last two and half years until I moved in with my brother and soon as I sit down it sucks me when I could and should be doing more important things)

It’s been a good move out to get of Rochester and I’m much better off, both personally and professionally, to be in D.C. It takes a little while to get linked into any new city and the local scene but I’m getting there and hope to be a little more active on this front. That means never eating alone and realizing that staying late at work doesn’t always get you ahead. It means going to as many shows as I can because discovering new music and seeing shows it what keeps motivated and inspired.

It’s 72 degress in D.C. right now, the sun is shining, and I have John Mayer’s Waiting on the World to Change on repeat right now. Life is good.

Why I Love BitTorrent

This pretty much sums it up, 147 KB/s download speeds. Now that's my idea of movies on demand, forget Netflix or Blockbuster. In case you're wondering, the movie is Volver.
