Lightening Flashes Through the Blinds

When I went running two Tuesday nights ago down by the National Mall, my usual routine is trying to time it right so I can watch the sunset while heading back towards the Lincoln Memorial.  But during my normal loop around the Capital, there was a outdoor concert, the Air Force Band, going on right at the north steps of the building. I wasn't planning on it but with such a perfect summer night as the backdrop, I stopped and listened to them play. Completely unexpected and yet the scene of people out enjoying a free concert became a perfect moment to pause for a second and enjoy life during an otherwise normal and hectic day.

Today it was stopping at Starbucks for a mid-afternoon Chai, my new guilty and expensive habit, and was pleasantly surprised to see them selling a Corinne Bailey Rae album. Having discovered her through KCRW, it was nice to see her work hitting the mainstream (I don't listen to much mainstream radio so I'm considering Starbucks as mainstream- any arguments to that?).

Here's her cover of the Editors song, Munich (mp3 link), to combat the fury outside my windows right now.
